More About Us

Historic Union Station

In the 1800s, trains brought growth and prosperity to cities, but switch engines often blocked streets with no regulations. To address this, Mayor Charles L. Davidson in 1909 promised to elevate the tracks across Douglas and build a union terminal. By 1910, four railroads agreed to raise their tracks from Kellogg past Second Street and fund a grand union station. Designed in the Beaux Arts style by architect Louis Curtiss, the station’s plans were unveiled in 1911, and by 1912 contracts were finalized for the $2.5 million project, which included the depot and elevated tracks.
